This cobalt-blue glass hookah base reflects the decorative smoking culture of Qajar-era Persia. Its tall architectural form features a broad reservoir, narrow neck, flared upper collar, and circular foot.

The body displays hand-painted floral decoration, gilded scrollwork, and a framed portrait of a formally dressed court figure. The sitter wears a tall black cap, decorated uniform, and prominent medals. These details connect the imagery to the visual language of Qajar court portraiture.

White flowers and green leaves surround the portrait and stand in vivid contrast against the deep blue glass. Fine gilt lines emphasize the neck, rim, and lower body. Together, the painted and gilded elements transform the vessel into both a smoking implement and a decorative display object.

Persian hookah bases often served as highly visible parts of domestic and ceremonial interiors. Their decoration reflected wealth, fashion, court culture, and the social importance of communal smoking.
