Royal Goedewaagen Ceramic Hookah

This mid-century ceramic hookah was produced by Royal Goedewaagen of Gouda, Holland. The historic Dutch pottery firm developed strong ties to smoking culture through its production of clay pipes and decorative tobacco wares.

The glazed ceramic reservoir features a hand-painted gathering scene inspired by European visions of the Middle East. Figures appear within a desert setting framed by architectural forms and crescent-and-star motifs. The imagery reflects the Orientalist themes that remained popular in European decorative arts during the mid-20th century.

The hookah retains its removable porcelain bowl, cork fitting, woven textile-covered hose, and tapered dark mouthpiece. Together, these components create a substantially complete smoking assembly.
