This restored hookah centers on a mid-century ceramic reservoir made by Royal Goedewaagen of Gouda, Holland. The historic Dutch pottery firm produced clay pipes, tobacco wares, and decorative ceramics connected to European smoking culture.

The glazed porcelain body features a hand-painted desert gathering scene with dancers, figures, architecture, and decorative motifs. The imagery reflects the romanticized Middle Eastern themes that appeared throughout European decorative arts during the mid-20th century.

A modern black hose and a large faceted glass bowl with a glass stem now complete the assembly. These contemporary additions restore the hookah’s overall form while creating a clear contrast with the original ceramic reservoir.

Because the bowl, stem, and hose are later replacements, the piece should not be described as an entirely original period hookah. Instead, it represents a mixed-period restoration built around an authentic Royal Goedewaagen ceramic body.

The completed object combines Dutch ceramic craftsmanship, postwar Orientalist design, and contemporary restoration. Its bold silhouette and contrasting materials give it a strong decorative presence.
