This extraordinary ceremonial smoking pipe was acquired in Jerusalem and dates to approximately 1600–1700. Among the oldest and most visually distinctive objects in the History of Smoke collection, it offers a rare surviving link to the smoking traditions and metalworking arts of the early modern Middle East.

The pipe features a dramatically curved stem covered in dense floral ornament. Its elaborate bowl carries layered metalwork, sculptural details, and suspended decorative elements that give the piece movement and presence. A small bead-shaped pendant hangs beneath the stem, adding another ceremonial flourish to the design.

The maker worked the pipe from thin metal and treated nearly every visible surface as an area for decoration. Floral patterns, applied forms, and finely shaped details transform the object from a simple smoking implement into a ceremonial work of art.
