01 · Artifact Handling

No two objects travel exactly alike.

A porcelain pipe, metal hookah, carved wooden object, framed smoking artwork, and fragile nineteenth-century artifact all demand different treatment. Shipping methods are selected around the object rather than forcing the object into a standardized warehouse process.

SMALLER ARTIFACTS

Tracked Parcel Shipping

Smaller pipes, accessories, books, ephemera, collectibles, and suitably sized objects are commonly shipped through USPS Priority Mail or another comparable tracked carrier. Shipments valued above $500 receive insurance.

LARGE & FRAGILE OBJECTS

Insured Ground & Specialty Transit

Larger hookahs, framed works, sculptures, delicate vessels, and unusually shaped artifacts may travel through FedEx Ground, another insured parcel carrier, specialty freight, or a method selected by Goodson Gallery to better protect the object.

02 · The Journey

04 · Processing Time

Old objects cannot always be rushed.

Most History of Smoke orders are prepared within 2–5 business days. Large, unusually shaped, delicate, framed, high-value, or specialty artifacts may require up to 14 days so that appropriate packing materials and support can be prepared.

If materially additional time becomes necessary, we will make reasonable efforts to notify the purchaser.

Important terms before the journey.

What happens if an artifact arrives damaged?
Contact us promptly. Keep the artifact, outer box, interior packing, labels, cushioning, and all other shipment materials exactly as received where practical. Photograph the package and any damage. These materials may be necessary for a carrier or shipping-insurance claim. Do not return a damaged artifact before receiving instructions from History of Smoke or Goodson Gallery.
Are shipments insured?
Orders valued above $500 are shipped with insurance at no additional cost to the purchaser. Insurance remains subject to the applicable carrier or insurer’s terms, documentation requirements, exclusions, and claim review. Goodson Gallery will reasonably assist with qualifying shipping claims.
Are carrier delivery dates guaranteed?
No. Processing times and transit estimates are estimates unless a specific delivery commitment is expressly made in writing. Weather, carrier delays, customs, holidays, government inspection, transportation disruption, and other events outside our reasonable control may affect delivery.
Why might my carrier be different from the one listed?
USPS and FedEx describe our normal shipping practices, but the safest method depends upon the artifact. History of Smoke and Goodson Gallery may select UPS, specialty freight, courier service, another insured carrier, or a different service level when appropriate for the object’s dimensions, fragility, value, destination, or insurance requirements.
Is standard shipping free?
Standard delivery is included in the listed price for eligible domestic purchases unless otherwise disclosed. International delivery, expedited shipping, specialty freight, white-glove delivery, unusual access requirements, or purchaser-requested services may require an additional charge disclosed before the arrangement is finalized.
Can I request a video of my artifact being packed?
Absolutely. When practical, we are happy to provide a short packing-process video. Requests should be made as early as possible. Because fulfillment schedules and artifact requirements vary, a video cannot be guaranteed for every order.
What about international shipment of historical materials?
International shipments may be affected by customs, import restrictions, cultural-property rules, wildlife-material regulations, taxes, duties, carrier restrictions, or other legal requirements. History of Smoke and Goodson Gallery reserve the right to decline or modify a shipping arrangement where a legitimate legal, customs, insurance, or compliance issue exists.
